On Friday, February 9, Bob Van Cleave and Joe Hopkins, Class of 1941, visited Arcola High School with their sons, to revisit some memories and to check out the new touchscreen boards in the hallways.
Van Cleave and Hopkins are the oldest living AHS alumni, and remember quite a bit from their high school days - from who hit one of the brick monument columns in the parking lot with their car to the men from their class that went on to serve in WWII.
Superintendent Tom Mulligan and Sue Stout of the Arcola Alumni Association arranged the visit. They wanted the alumni to see the new touchscreen boards posted in the hallways where digital copies of past yearbooks, graduating class senior photos and athletic records are being displayed. (This is a work in progress, so updates will be made regularly.)
The boards are located outside of the AHS gym (in the cafeteria), in the hallway of graduating class photos, and across from the AHS media center and junior high gym.
Van Cleave and Hopkins also trekked to the original gym and cafeteria, which students now call "the old gym", to see how one area they spent a lot of time in during high school has changed over the years.
During the visit, Van Cleave and Hopkins also met current Ag teacher and FFA sponsor Baley Milton, and Principal Nick Lindsey.
