Summer Facility Projects

The students may be out for the summer but that doesn’t mean it will be quiet around the school building this summer.  In addition to summer school and numerous camps, there are several facility-related projects scheduled for this summer.  The following is a summary of the projects being completed over the summer:

Track Surface Removal & Replacement – The current track surface has run out its useful life!  Bryne and Jones Sports Construction have been contracted to remove the existing running track surface to expose the asphalt base.  They will then install a Champion black base mat track surface over the existing asphalt system and install a black Champion structural spray to the base mat system.  The track will then be striped to NFHS standards.

High School Locker Room Renovation – both locker rooms in the high school gym will be completely remodeled this summer.  The current locker rooms, shower areas and offices will be removed and a new locker room design will be installed.  The current locker rooms are over 65 years old and are in a need of a significant upgrade.  Each side will still have a PE locker room and an athletic locker room area. All new plumbing, fixtures, lighting, flooring and lockers will be installed in a new design.

5th and 6th Grade Bathroom Renovation – to continue with the elementary school renovation, two more bathrooms will be remodeled this summer.  These are the two bathrooms in the elementary school that are closest to the high school gymnasium.  The same contractor that is completing the locker room upgrade will complete this renovation as well.

Elementary Classroom Renovation – the school will begin to renovate the elementary classrooms this summer with a plan to upgrade several classrooms each year.  There will be 4 classrooms completed this summer. The asbestos flooring will be removed and replaced with an epoxy flooring.  The classrooms will also be repainted and new cabinets will be installed.

Roof Replacement – the high school gym and cafeteria roof systems will be replaced this summer as well.  This will continue the district’s consistent approach to upgrading all of the roofs in the district.  These are the two oldest roof systems remaining in the district.  They will be replaced with a new roof that will include a 30-year warranty.

Overall, the district will be investing over $2,000,000 into the facility projects this summer.  If you see a lot of heavy equipment on the grounds in June and July, you will now know why!
